"Circe" by Madeline Miller
When I read Circe in 2023, I immediately loved the way Miller was able to retell a mythological story in a contemporary context. While I love the traditional look of the published cover, I thought to take the depiction of the mythological enchantress I have seen in various artworks and use that as inspiration for a new cover. I combined the artwork of Circe by John William Waterhouse with a more modern typeface that echoes the circular motif in the art. This design, I believe, captures the somber and powerful story that Madeline Miller tells. What came out of it was a cover I would love to display on my personal bookshelf!
