"Belladonna" by Adalyn Grace
I enjoyed reading Belladonna by Adalyn Grace because it talks about life, death, and the in-between in a compelling way. Since this book takes place in the 19th century and is centered around a certain poisonous plant, I wanted to take inspiration from botanical illustrations from around that time. I decided to take an old illustration from an open-source website and color and texturize it. I took two separate layout approaches. The first I enjoy because it fuses together a more modern approach with the traditional elements of academic botanical illustrations. The alternative option I decided to keep a more traditional setup that includes a border and center aligned text.
